English Version:
IN SUPPORT OF YOUNG BRAZILIAN PROGRESSISTS
We, young European citizens, take our vow to support the union of the progressive youth of Brazil in their struggle to save democracy.
We see the results of the first round of the Brazilian electoral process with great concern. Only Brazilians can change the course of events and we believe that it will be the strength of young people that will make a difference.
The threat to democracy is real. The division of the people is dramatic. Populism fueled by fear has become violent. These are the values of the candidate Jair Bolsonaro. The history of Brazil and Europe has been marked by the somber episode of dictatorships. Our people suffered the evils of war and oppression. Many were the Brazilians who, as refugees, sought exile in Europe, and vice versa. For dictatorships only give room for obedience to tyrants. It was with the conquest of democracy that we managed to build a better society with more opportunities, and to raise well-being programs seeking to mitigate inequalities.
We know that the struggle to maintain these ideals is never over. In times of crisis, there are forces that try to seduce us into retreat, trying to convince us that sacrificing our rights will be the only solution.
Do not give in! Until October 28, fight tirelessly, play and sing again the songs and poems of resistance and solidarity in the streets. Remember the struggle that was necessary to conquer the sovereignty of the people. Brazil is a country with vast international relations, of gigantic dimensions and composed of a multicultural people that congregates in its blood and its history the richest mixture of ethnic groups. The division that they are trying to plant artificially in the society only weakens a great people.
Let’s say categorically NO to Bolsonaro, for Brazil’s construction of human values, liberty, equality and solidarity.
We are with you!
